Guided Mountain Biking in Aspen, Colorado
Ride Aspen's World-Class Trails with Local Experts
Aspen sits at the center of one of the most celebrated mountain biking destinations in Colorado. With over 300 miles of singletrack and doubletrack within an hour of downtown, the Roaring Fork Valley draws riders from around the world seeking everything from mellow valley-bottom cruises to technical high-alpine epics.
Rich Valley Adventures offers guided mountain biking experiences tailored to your fitness level, technical ability, and the time you have available. Our guides know every trail in the valley — from the iconic 401 Trail above Crested Butte Pass to the fast, flowy descents of the Snowmass Trail Network and the hidden gems that only locals know.
We offer guided half-day and full-day rides from June through October, when Aspen's high-altitude trails are clear of snow and wildflowers are in full bloom. Whether you're a beginner looking to build confidence on terrain or an expert rider chasing the biggest days, we'll build your perfect Aspen mountain bike experience.

Aspen's Signature Mountain Bike Trails
The 401 Trail near Crested Butte is consistently ranked among the top mountain bike trails in the United States. This 10-mile singletrack loop combines a lung-busting climb through aspen groves and wildflower meadows with one of the most exhilarating descents in the Rockies — sweeping views of the Elk Mountains included.
Closer to town, Hunter Creek Trail offers a challenging climb with panoramic views of the Roaring Fork Valley before linking into the ridge trails above Aspen. Smuggler Mountain Road is a classic Aspen climb for conditioning riders, while the Snowmass Trail Network provides a full progression from beginner greens to double-black expert lines.
Guided Rides for Every Level
We structure our guided rides around you. First-time mountain bikers get calm trail introductions with technique coaching — body position, braking, cornering, and descending with confidence. Intermediate riders push into flowing singletrack with technical features. Expert riders get access to the valley's most committing lines with guide support to unlock terrain they couldn't safely explore alone.
All rides include a pre-ride safety briefing, trailhead logistics, and real-time coaching throughout. Our guides ride alongside you — not just pointing at a map — so you get the full benefit of their local expertise on every descent and climb.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you provide bikes?
We can arrange high-quality trail bike rentals from our partner shops in Aspen and Basalt. Let us know your height and riding style when booking and we'll have the right bike ready. Full-suspension trail bikes and e-bikes are available.
What fitness level do I need?
Most Aspen trails involve significant elevation gain — 1,000 to 3,000+ feet depending on the route. We always choose trails appropriate for your fitness level. E-bikes are available for riders who want to focus on the descent experience over the climb.
Is mountain biking safe for kids?
Yes — with the right trail selection. Aspen has excellent beginner-friendly trails and paved paths perfect for younger riders. We recommend ages 10+ for guided singletrack experiences, and can accommodate family groups with a mix of abilities.
What should I wear?
A properly fitted helmet is mandatory and provided if needed. Wear padded mountain bike shorts or casual athletic wear. Bring a light layer for the descent — even summer ridgelines can be cool. Gloves, eye protection, and knee pads are recommended for technical terrain.
